Toyota 7FGU25:
side shift hydraulic seal leaking.
I have seal leakage on the rod seals on the side shift cylinder. What I do not see is how do you replace the seals. The rods go into steel mounts on both sides, but they are welded in to the rack that has the cylinder mounted in it. Does any one know how to replace the seals? Right Line is the make. Model 5F920-16. Serial # 024380. 6500 lbs.

Thank you swoop223. I have experience in hydraulics and transmissions, know what you are talking about. Had my share of blood split. Thank you for the heads up on what type of retainers to look for.

rightline sideshifter?
yep dude is right, remove the sideshift carriage from the lift bracket to gain access to the integral cylinder.
the fun part is getting the cylinder apart. Pay close attention on how the end caps are assembled, some of these are just screw on caps and aren't so hard to remove. Yet others have an internal inverted snapring or retaining ring that makes things alot more interesting.
If you have the one with the internal retaining ring you will have to push the gland into the cylinder enough to get enough clearance to remove the retaining ring and that can only be removed with a sharp seal pick and another device such as a small wedge tool. It is very hard to get these out without damaging the cylinder area where it is machined.
Just remember to use great care when disassembling and reassembling these. Poking a seal pick or screw driver into your hand is not a pleasant experience.
If it is a snapring then it would naturally be easier to remove.
Just use caution when working with these if you have never done it before.

Thank you Dude, I got a exploded view for the right line cylinder and I can see now after you saying to remove carriage how the rod ends just slide in mounts on each end.

side shift is not welded, if you remove clamps at the bottom of fork carrage 4 blots and lift carrage off the angle slide you can assess cylinder hope this helps

Fact of the week
Belgian bar owners complain that tens of thousands of their stylish beer glasses are stolen by souvenir hunters every year. One popular bar requires patrons to hand over one of their shoes as a deposit. The shoe is put in a basket and hung from the ceiling until the glass is returned after the beer is consumed.
